Radetzkymarsch

TV Movie
1994

A young lieutenant of petit-bourgeois origin, made a hero and elevated to the nobility for saving the Emperor’s life at the battle of Solferino, cannot identify with the practices in the name of political prudence, and leaves the army. He forbids his son Franz von Trotta to join the army. The military family tradition is to be revived in the grandson at the request of father Franz. The unstable Carl Joseph, however, finds himself unable to hold up anything similar to his grandfather’s unattainable example. He resigns from the service after tragic events and dies a very unheroic war death.
