“Die Toten von Salzburg” are back with a double feature: Filming has begun on two new episodes

27/04/26 – With two new cases, the successful ORF/ZDF crime series “Die Toten von Salzburg” produced by Satel Film, returns: since mid-April, Patricia Aulitzky, Michael Fitz, Fanny Krausz, and Erwin Steinhauer have been back in front of the camera together—this time, their investigations lead them into the dark circles of power within the Salzburg Archdiocese and into the exlusive world of Salzburg’s hunting aristocracy. Filming in and around Salzburg will continue until mid-June. The director is Erhard Riedlsperger.

A murder in a monastery crypt, a burnt-down hunting lodge, a body in the ashes: since mid-April, Patricia Aulitzky (Lu Frey), Michael Fitz (Hubert Mur), Fanny Krausz (Irene Russmeyer), and Erwin Steinhauer (Hofrat Seywald) have been in front of the camera for two new episodes of the ORF/ZDF crime series “Die Toten von Salzburg” produced by Vienna-based Satel Film.
In episode 13, “When You Speak of the Devil” (written by Stefan Brunner), the investigators are drawn into the power circles of the archdiocese. In episode 14, “Hunting Fever” (written by Michael Grießler), they must solve a deadly territorial dispute within Salzburg’s hunting aristocracy.
Filming is taking place at locations including Blühnbach Castle, Café Bazar, the Salzburg Residence in the DomQuartier, Kajetan Church and the Franciscan monastery library, as well as the Kulturwirtshaus Urbankeller.

In “Hunting Fever,” the cast includes Felix Hellmann, Natalie Spinell, Johann Barnstorf, Lisa Schützenberger, Alexander Strobele, Dominik Maringer, Michaela Klamminger, Aglaia Szyszkowitz, Petra Michelle Nérette, Daniel Langbein, Vincent Louis Lyssewski, and Sarah Zaharanski.

Successful series export made in Austria
“Die Toten von Salzburg” is produced by Heinrich Ambrosch, Managing Director of Satel Film, who relies on a proven team that consistently delivers top ratings both in Austria and internationally.
“‘Die Toten von Salzburg’ strikes a chord with audiences because the series feels authentic: strong characters, genuine suspense, and the unmistakable Salzburg atmosphere. Patricia Aulitzky immediately won over viewers as the new investigator and has brought a fresh, exciting dynamic to the team. On this basis, we look forward to telling the next chapters of this success story,” says Heinrich Ambrosch.
Editorial responsibility lies with Sabine Weber (ORF) and Daniel Blum (ZDF).

After her time off, Irene Russmeyer returns to duty. But the welcome party has to be cancelled. Lu Frey and Hubert Mur are investigating a murder case within Salzburg’s ecclesiastical power circles: Anna Leitner—the schizophrenic daughter of the influential church official Dr. Matthias Leitner—is found murdered in a monastery crypt.
Frey and Russmeyer’s first lead takes them to the archdiocese’s exorcist, Father Gregor Stein, who had been “treating” Anna at her father’s request. Meanwhile, Mur encounters a former fellow patient of the victim, Daniela Brenner, who had developed an obsession with Anna and had been stalking her.
Suspicion also falls on the pious, overprotective housekeeper of the Leitner family, Maria Elisabeth Trost—only for her to be personally exonerated by the powerful Dr. Leitner himself. Ultimately, Anna’s secret research for her PhD thesis provides the decisive breakthrough in the investigation.

When his hunting lodge burns down in the middle of the night, hunter Georg Altmüller is certain: it was animal rights activists who had already set fire to one of his lodges weeks earlier. But a body is found in the ashes—and Frey, Mur, and Russmeyer begin their investigation.
The victim, a recently arrived hunter named Lenny Petersen, had been killed with a hunting rifle. Was it in fact an act of revenge by a rival hunter, in whose territory the victim was allegedly poaching? It soon becomes clear that Petersen had felt he was being followed. The trail ultimately leads to a former aristocratic family from Salzburg.

“Die Toten von Salzburg” is a production of Satel Film in co-production with ORF and ZDF, funded by FISAplus, Film in Austria (ABA), the Austrian Television Fund, the Province of Salzburg, and the City of Salzburg.
