Winemaker Matteo (Tobias Moretti) lives a middle-class life with his wife Stefania (Ursina Lardi) and their daughter Laura (Antonia Moretti) in the vineyards of South Tyrol. The family is known for its good wine, and the village holds them in high esteem. One day Nino Sorrentino (Fabrizio Romagnoli) shows up at their vineyard, apparently an old acquaintance of Matteo. But Nino is more than just a companion from Matteo’s childhood days – he is part of Matteo’s dark past, which originated in Naples and which he left behind many years ago.

At the same time, a bizarre incident shakes the idyllic life in the area: the young woman Akua Mbaye (Precious Sanusi) is found shot in the vineyards. When the doctors remove a bullet from her shoulder, carabiniere Adrin Erlacher (Harald Windisch) takes over the investigation. Head of department Christina Melauer (Melika Foroutan) wants to close the case. But for Erlacher, there is mounting evidence that the perpetrators come from the village. The grumpy law enforcement officer investigates on his own and suddenly winemaker Matteo becomes the focus of the investigation.

“Im Netz der Camorra/The Winemaker” is a production of good friends Filmproduktion (producer: Moritz von der Groeben) in co-production with Satel Film (producer: Heinrich Ambrosch), ZDF and ServusTV. Supported by Fernsehfonds Austria, IDM Südtirol and Cine Tirol Film Commission.

The two-part film was directed by Andreas Prochaska (Das finstere Tal, Das Boot), who also wrote the screenplays together with Ben von Rönne. These are based on a draft by Max Gruber. Thomas Kiennast was responsible for the cinematography.
