23/01/26 – The nominations for the 2026 Grimme Award have been announced: the six-part drama series “Nachts im Paradies” a co-production by Satel Film and Windlight Pictures, is among the nominees, having been nominated in the Fiction competition for its visual design, production design, and cinematography.
On January 22, the nominees for the 2026 Grimme Award were announced. As the Grimme Institute in Germany reported, more than 750 submissions were received. In total, 71 productions and individual achievements were ultimately nominated. Among them is the six-part drama series “Nachts im Paradies”, which received a special nomination in the Fiction category for its visual design, production design, and cinematography.
The six-part series centres on taxi driver Vincent (Jürgen Vogel), who searches for a way out of the hell of late capitalism with his daughter Joni (Lea Drinda) at night in a big city. Vincent has to accept that he is no longer needed: his profession is dying out and his daughter wants nothing to do with him. Joni manages on her own – as she always has done. But the apocalyptic events of a fateful Oktoberfest night lead to their paths crossing again.
Additional leading roles are played by Birgit Minichmayr and Leonard Scheicher. The screenplay was written by Matthias Glasner and Hannah Schopf, with Glasner directing the majority of the series alongside Bettina Oberli. Filming took place in Berlin and Brussels in 2022.
The Grimme Award is considered Germany’s most prestigious media prize and has been awarded by the Grimme Institute in Marl since 1964. An overview of all nominations can be found here:
