ORF series start for the 19th season of SOKO Donau with newcomer Max Fischnaller as forensic scientist

30/01/25 – Austria’s most successful crime series starts the crime season on February 4 with the episode “Was wäre wenn…?” from the 19th season at 8.15 p.m. on ORF 1 (already available from February 3 at 8.15 p.m. on ORF ON). From episode 2 (“Eine Gräfin namens Cindy”, airing February 11 on ORF 1 and February 4 on ORF ON), Max Fischnaller makes his series debut as Julius Rubatsch. He is the successor to forensic scientist Franz Wohlfahrt (Helmut Bohatsch), who leaves the series at his own request with the opening episode. Andreas Kiendl, Martin Gruber, Lilian Klebow, Brigitte Kren and Maria Happel are back in the cast. The 13 new episodes were filmed in Vienna, Lower Austria and Styria. Satel Film relies on green producing for the production, i.e. shooting with as little carbon footprint as possible.

Max Fischnaller is eagerly awaiting his big appearance: “Of course I’m curious to see whether one or two people will recognize me and talk to me while I’m on the public transport. Of course I hope that the long-established SOKO fans will be satisfied with the new character and that new fans will also join them. I’m also interested in crime fiction and have already bought several books. Maybe I’ll join the police force during the winter break so that I can embody the role even more authentically.”

Heinrich Ambrosch, the managing partner of Satel Film, is full of praise for his “crime thriller rookie”: “Max Fischnaller is a real stroke of luck. He not only brings his extraordinary talent, but also his passion and energy, which give the series a fresh, youthful spin. He is also an incredibly likeable young man who has played his way into the hearts of the entire team within just a few days of filming. I am convinced that he will also take our viewers by storm with his affable nature. At the same time, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Helmut Bohatsch. He has played a key role in shaping the series for almost two decades.”

In the first five episodes, Kristina Bangert, Julia Edtmeier, Maria Fliri, Jack Hofer, Tanja Raunig, Christopher Schärf and Johannes Zeiler, among others, appear in front of the camera. The 19th season is directed by Sophie Allet-Coche, Olaf Kreinsen and Katharina Heigl from scripts by Sarah Wassermair, Natalia Geb and Sönke Lars Neuwöhner, Andreas Quetsch and Frank Weller, Markus Staender, Peter Dommaschk and Ralf Leuther, Martin Muser and Jens Schäfer, Michael Grießler, Sigrid Neudecker as well as Eva Testor and Eva Spreitzhofer. Filming took place in Vienna, Klosterneuburg, Zwentendorf, Pöllau and Graz.
